What Size Sticker Should You Choose?
For a simple packaging logo, compare a 25 mm and a 40 mm round sticker. A wide brand name may sit more naturally on a 60 × 30 mm rectangle. For a promotional illustration with several details, a 75 × 50 mm format gives you more room to work.
These are design starting points, not a standard size range. We make custom stickers to suit your artwork and the surface where they will go. Start with the space on the package, then choose the shape that presents the design clearly.
Sticker Size Examples by Use
Dimensions below describe one finished sticker after cutting. Rectangles are width × height with the wording upright; round sizes are diameters. Inch equivalents are approximate.
| Design or placement | Example finished size | Approx. inches | What it can suit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small round logo | 25 mm diameter | 0.98 in | A simple mark on a small package |
| Round brand sticker | 40 mm diameter | 1.57 in | A logo with a short surrounding message |
| Square graphic | 40 × 40 mm | 1.57 × 1.57 in | A compact illustration or stacked name |
| Wide wordmark | 60 × 30 mm | 2.36 × 1.18 in | A garment bag or box front |
| Larger promotional design | 75 × 50 mm | 2.95 × 1.97 in | A giveaway sticker with several elements |
A longer message may need a larger sticker even when the logo stays the same size. Compare the complete design, including any border or website address.
Measure the Cut Edge, Not the Backing
The sticker size is the area that peels off and stays on the product. A sheet, roll liner or individual backing card can be larger. For a custom outline, give the maximum width and height of the finished shape, including any border that remains around the artwork.
Artwork bleed sits outside that cut edge. It lets a background continue through the cutting area and is not part of the finished sticker. Important lettering belongs farther inside. Avery’s artwork guide explains this distinction between the cut line, bleed and safe area. We arrange the actual artwork margins for your chosen production method.

Example: A 40 × 25 mm Brand Sticker
Suppose a rectangular sticker will finish at 40 × 25 mm. For this example only, the artwork uses 2 mm of bleed outside every edge and keeps important wording 3 mm inside every edge.
The artwork including bleed is (40 + 2 + 2) × (25 + 2 + 2) = 44 × 29 mm. The inner area reserved for important wording is (40 − 3 − 3) × (25 − 3 − 3) = 34 × 19 mm. The finished sticker is still 40 × 25 mm.
These example margins are not a fixed factory rule. They show why a 40 mm sticker does not provide 40 mm of unrestricted logo space. If the lettering feels crowded, increasing the sticker or simplifying the message gives a clearer result.
Let the Shape Follow the Artwork
A round sticker works well with a centered symbol. A rectangle gives a long name more horizontal space. An irregular outline can follow a recognizable silhouette, but narrow points and tight corners leave less room for small lettering.
Two shapes with the same maximum width can hold very different designs. A 40 mm circle does not have the same corner space as a 40 × 40 mm square. We can help adapt the outline while keeping the main logo easy to recognize.
Look at the Package as Well as the Sticker
Place a paper outline on the actual bag, box or tag. This makes the scale easier to judge than an enlarged screen preview. Leave room around folds, openings and other information that the customer needs to see.
On clear film, the package becomes the background behind the design. A logo that looks bold on white paper may look quieter against dark clothing. We can discuss paper, PET, PVC, synthetic paper or holographic film alongside the print colors and finish.
Choose How Your Team Will Use the Stickers
A giveaway sticker and a packing-line label may use the same finished shape but need different backing and supply formats. We offer rolls, sheets and flat supply. The liner dimensions and roll arrangement are separate from the individual sticker size.
Send the logo, intended placement and quantity. We can help with sizing, printing, foil, embossing and adhesive options. Any required cutting tooling is included in the project quote. For a sticker that closes a flap, our sealing sticker size guide focuses on the contact area across the closure.
