PVC Label Size Guide: Custom Shapes, Borders & Logo Detail

Quick Answer

Planning dimensions for PVC labels, including irregular outlines, proportional scaling and the space used by borders and color details.

Choose the PVC outline before reducing the logo

A 50 × 25 mm rectangle is a useful starting example for a horizontal PVC label. A round emblem may suit a 40 mm diameter, while a shield needs both its full width and height. Choose the outline that gives the artwork space where it needs it.

We make custom PVC labels with flat or raised designs for bags, footwear, hats and clothing. The size, outline and color areas are developed together. A label shaped around a logo can look very different from the same logo placed inside a rectangle.

PVC label sizes to explore

These are planning examples, not industry standards, stock sizes or existing mold options. Dimensions describe the finished outer outline, including any molded rim. Width × height uses the maximum left-to-right and top-to-bottom measurements with the artwork upright. A circle is listed by diameter.

The approximate inch values use NIST’s exact conversion, 1 inch = 25.4 mm. The millimeter values remain the controlling dimensions in these examples.

Allow for corners, curves and the outer rim

A 40 × 40 mm square and a circle of 40 mm diameter share the same maximum width and height, but they do not provide the same artwork area. Words that fit across the top of the square may run into the curved edge of the circle.

The same applies to hearts and shields. Their maximum dimensions describe the space they occupy on the product, not a rectangular area that can be filled with text. We place the artwork inside the actual contour, leaving room for any raised rim or attachment area.

For a label that follows individual letters or a mascot, include the furthest tips in the overall dimensions. Thin extensions deserve attention when the design is reduced; the center of the logo may still read clearly while the outer details become crowded.

The complete outer contour defines the label’s width and height.

Reducing the size also reduces the small details

Suppose a rectangular design is 60 × 30 mm and you want it 45 mm wide. The scale is 45 ÷ 60 = 0.75, so keeping its proportions gives a height of 30 × 0.75 = 22.5 mm.

If every part is reduced equally, an illustrative 2 mm border becomes 1.5 mm. The gaps between letters and separate color areas shrink too. This calculation describes the artwork only; it does not establish a workable minimum border or line width. We may simplify a small feature while preserving the overall shape.

A clear symbol and a short name often make better use of a compact label than several lines of tiny wording. A detailed illustration can instead have a larger outline or fewer small color sections.

Describe the surface as well as the width

Two labels with the same outline can have very different profiles. PVC Emblems shows defined levels and sculpted surfaces in its molded designs. A front view alone does not show how high a logo or rim stands above the base.

For your label, we discuss a flat or raised logo, the body thickness and the backing separately. Adding height is not a substitute for giving small lettering enough space across the front.

The back should also suit the product. We offer adhesive-backed options for suitable surfaces and can help develop the attachment with your bag, footwear or garment. The outline should fit its panel without running into seams, openings or hardware.

Use the sample to settle the final shape

A full-size paper outline helps compare the footprint of a rectangle, circle or custom shape on your product. A molded sample then shows the color areas, relief and actual edge.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, when we describe the overall outer dimensions. Any molded border is inside that outline. The usable logo area will be smaller than the complete label.

Give its maximum width and maximum height with the artwork upright, or send a full-size outline. Those dimensions include the widest curves and the lowest point.

It depends on the size and arrangement of the color areas. We can review the artwork and suggest simpler details or a larger outline if the smaller areas become crowded.

No. Attachment also depends on the backing, receiving surface and how the product is used. We help choose the construction for the actual product.

We have no minimum order. Mold fees are quoted separately. A custom sample costs US$10 and takes 3–5 calendar days to make after payment, with mold fees separate.
